Timmy's Story

The Warehouse was a massive place, rather scary for us Bears who had just arrived and had no idea what was going to happen to us.

At least we were free, and no longer cramped into the container in which we had travelled hundreds of miles over sea and land. Uncle Ben continued to look out for us all as best he could together with Woof his Old English Sheepdog friend.

Indeed we had some good times, especially with the Witches and Orange Objects at Halloween, although they did not stay around for very long. Shortly after that The Warehouse started getting ready for the Christmas season and we were put out on display shelves in the showroom.

People came and went, some taking a bear or soft toy off with them, we could only guess and hope, that a good home awaited them.

One morning Dad (of course at the time I didn’t know he was going to become my dad) walked along the shelves. He glanced at me as he walked by, then as he glanced back a smiled crossed his face.

Suddenly there was quite a lot of activity around us, two small children were picking up soft toys and bears, squeezing us, throwing us at each other, pulling our ears and tails. Many ended up on the floor.

"I want this one!" Yelled the younger boy, grabbing my friend Justin from the shelf, he punched him in the tummy , tossed him to his brother, who did the same. They were about to throw Justin to each other when I heard a nearby voice boomed out.

"Oh no you don’t!"

Uncle Ben jump down from the shelf and stand in front of the two boys.

"That is not the right way to treat any toy! Especially not my relatives the Teddy Bears and Soft Toys!"

The children looked exceptionally startled.

"Are you real?" asked the older one.

"As real as you think I am" replied Uncle Ben.

"Boys what are you doing?" yelled a gruff voice "Come here now!" They looked at each other, then at Uncle Ben, who stretched himself up to his full height and said "go!".

"Everyone all right?" enquired Uncle Ben. Although a bit shaken by the behaviour of the children, within minutes we were all back safely on the shelf.

Sitting down next to me, with Woof close by, Uncle Ben said he hoped I would soon find a good home, people to cuddle and look after me. And in turn I would be there for them, a friend, someone to share their joys, happiness and sorrow.

"That is what we bears and soft toys are all about …." Uncle Ben was telling me just as someone caught my eye.

"I will, I have!" I replied excitedly, seeing the man who had walked by earlier coming closer.

"Come on Timmy, you are coming with me" he said, placing me with great care into his trolley.

Leaving The Warehouse was very strange, I had never been outside before. Woof had read us books and told stories from various papers and magazines she had found left around The Warehouse, but nothing was quite like the real thing.

Dad drove home with me sitting in the passenger seat of his van, he said I had to wear a seat belt to prevent me falling off. Stopping on a drive outside a house, he told me to wait for a moment whilst he fetched Mom.

I had a wonderful welcome to my new home and family, soon meeting Freddie, Boris and the other Bears, and the start of many new adventures.

Uncle Ben was always on my mind, I hoped he was all right. Not knowing where he was worried me.

Mom realising this and explained to me I would have to wait until the Bears were put into The Showroom again, then she would go and see if she could find Uncle Ben and Woof. If they are still there, she said, I will bring them home.

I spent many hours sitting by the gate waiting and wondering ......

Many months later Uncle Ben did indeed joined our Bear family,

oh what a reunion that was!

Woof had gone somewhere else but Uncle Ben felt sure she was being well looked after, I just hoped he was right.
